City of Salisbury Athletics and Running Club (CoSARC) were represented by Richard Williams, Nick Lay and husband and wife team - David & Lisa Phaure in the Newport Marathon on Sunday writes Vasen Moodley
Richard set a PB of over 14 minutes with a finishing time of 3:57:24.
In his first ever marathon 53 year old Nick Lay finished in an excellent time of 4:08:39, despite suffering cramps from mile 22. Nick dug deep, and his months of training paid off when he crossed the line in a time to be proud of.
In her first competitive marathon Lisa finished in a very good time of 5:16:32. Lisa only took up running seriously less than three years ago, when she joined CoSARC to do the Couch 2 5K course. Showing great tenacity and resilience Lisa pounded the streets for miles as she stuck resolutely to the training plan set for her by club coach Mark Glanville. Lisa’s finishing time shows how far she has come in a short space of time.
David struggled with a knee injury at mile 17, but ploughed on and finished in a very respectable time of 5:55:56. Alzheimer’s Society, MIND and Children’s Cancer UK will all benefit from David’s heroic efforts.
In the Bath Two Tunnels Half Marathon, which follows the disused trackbed of the Somerset and Dorset Railway as it passes through two tunnels and over the Tucking Mill Viaduct, Edward Cane broke the tape in 1:53:58 despite nursing a heavy cold.
